So it seems the repair hack actually takes gil from your inventory to repair the items. Seems like the only convenience of the hack is the ability to repair anywhere.
Has it always been like this?
I just kinda assumed it was a free repair utility lol.

Always been this way. If you repaired without paying it would become very detectable i'd guess. The costs are nothing, the ability to repair anywhere is really nice :)
